Who is this qualification for?

The Infant Massage Instructor qualification is for people who want to work with parents, teaching infant massage techniques and providing advice on related topics such as when and how long to massage for, what oil should be used for massage, baby body language during massage and much more.

Qualification pre-requisites

No pre-requisites apply for the Infant Massage Instructor certificate, there are no age restrictions for this course, and you do not need to be a parent yourself or a woman in order to complete training. You also do not need to be employed in related fields or have any medical or training knowledge to become a baby massage instructor.

If you already have a qualification in health, allied health, natural therapies or early childhood education, we recommend you look at our Paediatric Massage Consultant (PMC) qualification as well. After completing the PMC course, you will receive both the CIMI and PMC certifications.

What will you learn?

This face-to-face or online baby massage course will cover everything you need to know to work with families and newborn babies. Through 9 units of studies, you will learn how to work with parents, teaching a full-body massage routine as well as adaptations for wind, reflux and common digestive issues such as constipation. Adaptations are also taught for pre-term and low birth weight infants, children with special needs and adaptations for older children (from birth through to adolescence).

Wanting to make sure this baby massage instructor course teaches you all you need to successfully start a side business or full-time role, we’ll also cover how you can use your new qualification with a unit of study specifically on working as an instructor. From promoting your baby massage services to how to run infant massage appointments and classes for parents, you will leave this baby massage instructor course with all the tools to start earning money back in no time.

What can you do with this qualification?

Following the course you can work privately, taking appointments and classes with parents. Place your information in locations frequently visited by parents and infants (such as long day care centres, chemists, maternity stores etc); parents can then contact you directly to arrange a private appointment or attendance at one of your baby massage classes. The parents pay a tuition fee directly to you, their instructor for attendance at their class or for their private appointment.

The number of appointments you take, as well as the days and times you take appointments is entirely up to you. There are no requirements set on instructors regarding how often they teach.

If you already work with parents and infants, you may utilise your new baby massage qualification in your place of work or use the course for continual professional development.

How is this course taught?

You can study to become a baby massage instructor either online or in-person. We offer courses in most major Australian cities, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. These face-to-face baby massage instructor courses take place over 3 days for intensive, engaging and hands-on learning.

If you can’t attend a course in person or are based overseas, we also offer online baby massage courses with the same learning materials optimised for remote learning. You can work through the course material at your own pace, easily fitting it around other work and life commitments.

Practical assessments will require you to send your trainer a recording (taken with any device, including smartphones) for feedback and a detailed explanation of any misunderstanding or errors before receiving certification through the online baby massage instructor course.

Our trainer was great. The manual provided is invaluable and when coupled with training, brings everything into perspective. The course is very helpful with lots of hints about business aspects and it was good to hear about different things that have happened during baby massage classes.
Paula was fabulous; very friendly, fun and relaxed. She explained things in a manner that was easy to understand and made us feel completely at ease and comfortable with each other. No question was silly.
IMIS has been really helpful right from the first point of contact and the course is great. Everything is made easy for those who don't have any prior formal qualifications.
